Ideal for those with a working knowledge of story principles eager to advance. Beginners are welcome and encouraged to join. Do you write fiction, for theatre, or a podcast? Learn crucial skills & concepts that transfer to these mediums & more.
This lab gives writers the tools needed to craft compelling feature, pilot, or short screenplays. Through engaging sessions, on-the-page analysis of produced screenplays, & proven writing exercises, students will acquire a solid understanding of the fundamentals of story, character, dialogue, structure, tone, theme, & genre. Writers will emerge with the confidence to recognize stories worth telling & how to tell them well!
Exercises include learning to craft loglines that hook readers, producers, & festival programmers; nailing an elevator pitch; writing game-changing character descriptions; penning the opening scene to a feature or pilot based on a prompt; punching up dialogue like a pro.
Sharpen your skills, share your work, & find like-minded creatives to collaborate with, all while recharging your creativity amidst the tranquility of nature on Salt Spring Island!

$525 per person. $300 deposit required for registration with remainder due November 1.
